Howard Clemens Hillegas (December 30, 1872-January 29, 1918) was an author and newspaper correspondent. He was born in Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in 1894 and then moved to New York. In 1895 he was sent to South Africa as a correspondent for the New York World and returned to the United States in 1898. He authored several books about South African Wars, including: He died from pneumonia in New Brighton, Staten Island. New York Times obituary, Jan. 30, 1918.
