What reading level is Legend book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

At least, it seems like the home I remember. John sits with our mother at one end of the dining table, reading to her from a book of old Republic tales. Mom nods encouragingly to him when he gets through an entire page without flipping words or letters around. I smile at them from where I stand by the door. John is the strongest of us, but he has a patient, gentle streak that I didn’t inherit. A trait from our father. Eden is doodling something on paper at the other end of the table. Eden always... seems to be drawing in my dreams. He never looks up, but I can tell he’s listening to John’s story as well, laughing at the appropriate places.
Then I realize that the Girl is standing next to me. I hold her hand. She gives me a smile, one that fills the room with light, and I smile back.
“I’d like you to meet my mother,” I say to her.
She shakes her head. When I look back to the dining table, John and Mom are still there, but Eden’s gone.
The Girl’s smile fades. She looks at me with tragic eyes.

The book was well written and think it was pretty good. It is more YA Romance than adventure at times but I can stomach my way through it.

Each one I thought was really good and consistent. There is a little bit or predictability to me but it’s quite small

What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic’s wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic’s highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country’s most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths—until the day June’s brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family’s survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias’s death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

This is a favorite of mine, mainly because I read it when I was around 6th grade, and then came back to it later in high school. Something about it intrigues me, and the story is quite well written. It's got tons of interesting ideas, in terms of literary inventiveness.

I loved Legend and was so looking forward to this sequel. I think there is a little too much romance in the first part. It slows the pacing. I'm also distracted by the "yeahs" at the end of sentences. It sounds like the characters are British instead of American. Unfortunately, my son, a big fan of Legend, dropped the book after about 50 pages. I suspect that the romance was a little overdone for him. I was determined to finish and I'm two thirds of the way through and feel that despite the interesting plot twists, it's tough going.

One of the best books I've ever read. Kept me interested throughout the entire thing. This is like my 3rd time reading it!
