The sons of James Holmes and Barbara Brodie did not marry. Robert Holmes died at Chateaugay, March 6, 1845.
His brother, John Holmes, when a young man became blind, but continued to carry on the farm until it was sold when, with his mother, he removed to Montreal, where he died, January 14, 1882. Margaret Holmes, the oldest daughter, was born June 17, 18 10, and married William Parkyn of Montreal, June 22, 1833. Barbara Brodie Holmes married James Thomson, October 24, 1844. Mr. Thomson was born in Glasgow, Scotland, April 21, 1 82 1, and was taken to Montreal by his parents when five years old. After spending twelve years at Longueil in farming pursuits he removed to Montreal and became one of the principals in the mercantile firm of Thomson & Minchin, which he conducted with great success up to the time of his death, January 12, 1864.
