Spiritus Vini Galh'ci, brandy. Obtained by the distillation of fermented grape juice, and at least four years old. Contains from thirty-nine to forty-seven per cent, by weight of alcohol, and certain ethers which are developed by age. If pale it is colored from the cask; if dark it is colored by the addition of caramel or burnt sugar. Brandy is frequently 120 VETERINARY MATERIA MEDICA.

Vinum Album, white wine. Contains ten to four- teen per cent, by weight of alcohol. Prepared by fermenting the unmodified grape juice (freed from skins, seeds, and stems).
Vinum Album Fortius, stronger white wine. Contains twenty to twenty-five per cent, by weight of alcohol. (Vinum album 7, alcohol 1).
Vinum Rubrum, red wine. Contains from ten to fourteen per cent, by weight of alcohol. It is made by fermenting the juice of colored grapes with their skins.
