" However, Shakspere was also a disturber of the local peace as an assistant and supporter of the 19 notorious land cribbers, William and Thomas Combe, with whom he was actively associated in the oppression of the townf oik in the battle of the Enclosure of Common Fields at Welcombe, a sub- urb, in 1614-1618, and would doubtless have been fined had not death intervened in 1616, for Shaks- pere's conduct "defied the law of the realm.
