The evidence seems clear, aside from Colonel Jaquess' report, that somewhere between the time he alighted in front of Joshua Speed's Store, April 15, 1837, and that February day in 1861, when he stood on the platform of the train, there had been a decided change of heart — a new birth — a conversion.
