In the general respect which was here habitually felt for order and life, — in the mutual courtesy which prevailed in public and private discussions, — a few slight aberrations from decorum were magnified into mighty matters ; but the worst excesses that occurred here would hardly have been thought worth notice in the newspapers of any other country.
