Mr. Otis onited with this church in the following year. This new movement awakened much interest at the time, and was
... eminently successful. In its prosperity he was deeply interested, and was es- teemed as one of its pillars. In consequence of the emigration of the people towards what was then considered the upper part of the city, a removal was decided on as necessary to the prosperity of the Society. A location was accordingly procured in Duane Street, and a new and expensive Church was there erected in 1835- Six years previous to this remove he had been elected one of the elilers of the church, to the duties of which ofSce he de- voted himself with ability and judgment.
