With respect to the amount and cost of chemicals : " The experiments indicate that a certain defi- nite amount of lime gives as good or a better result than either more or less, and that in gen- eral the more copperas, ferric sulphate, or alum used the better the result ; and that ferric sul- phate and alum usually require no lime for com- plete precipitation, while with copperas a definite amount of lime must be used.
