The land reclaimed on the south side, in the... parishes of Button, Hesketh, and Howick, up to this period, was 628 acres, of which 91 acres in Hutton were sold for ;^i,i84, and 436 acres in Hesketh for ;^5, 1 08; making the totail amount realised by the sale of these lands ^13.323 17s. 9d. The land reclaimed in the township of Howick, 10 1 acres in ex- tent, was stated to be vested in the company absolutely and retained by them. 1856, the directors state that " the entire quantity of land which will ultimately be recoverable from the river will exceed 3,000 acres." The tolls and dues for the six months ending June 30th, 1856, amounted to ;^8o2 iSs.
