The first medical society, independent of the Medical Society of the County of Kings, was organized in 1852, and was known as the Medical Association of the Eastern Dis- trict. Among the physicians who were con- nected with this society we find the following: C. H. Schapps, M. D. , who was President in l852-'5S; Ernest Krackowizer, C. Macfarlan, Jos. Creamer, James S. Hawley, Carl Witt- man, Geo. W. Bake...r, John Walsh, J. J. Ache- son, Nelson L. North, Sr. , and E. N. Colt. This society continued until 1882, when it went out of existence. On February 5, 1863, the Medical Associa- tion of the Eastern District of Brooklyn was organized. MEDICAL CHIRURGIC. VL SOCIETY. Instituted at Brooklyn in 1857. Active among its membership were the following well-known physicians : Andrew Otterson (President from 1857 to 1859), John Ball, Joseph B. Jones (President in i860), E. N. Chapman, Daniel A. Dodge, J. H.
