He was the only son of a widow who li...ved on the Isle of Jersey, where it is said the name of Beede is quite common. F He worked his passage by mending some damaged stockings, which he did so skillfully that the captain of the ship got full price for them. He spoke the old Norman French spoken by the peasantry of Jersey to-day. He settled in Kingston, N. H. , and married Mehitable Sleeper, the first white female child born in that town. He became a man of considerable local dis- tinct ion. Was a sort of Rarey, and was yclept doctor for his skill in treat- ing sick horses and cattle, and wizard for his power of teaching and taming wild and vicious horses.
