When, more- over, we recall the fact that be bought from Napoleon two-thirds of our present territory for a few million dollars, we conclude that the price of property has not materially depreciated in value ; so we need not come here in the spirit of criticism or of apology, but rather as the advocate of the great patriot of the Revolution, who in the consum- mation of this purchase, was an instrument in the hands of God to help forward the civilization of his country.
