But all her efforts at checking the progress of this heaven-bora enter- prise have been as fruitless as those adopted by her in reference to the slave trade, or for civilizing Africa. The fact stands acknow- ledged before the world, that Great Britain, after the expenditure of more than one hundred millions of dollars, has failed in suppressing the slave trade on one mile of coast beyond the limits of her colonies, while our colonization efforts have swept it from nearly four hundred miles of coast, where it formerly existed in its chief strength.
