After 6 cases with 5 deaths had occurred, a half of the prisoners, including aged and young people, women, children, patients from the hospital, and people afl'ected with premonitory diarrhoea, was inoculated ; the other half, of an exactly similar composition, was left uninoculated. The result was a gradual disappearance of cases and deaths among the inoculated, the diflerence in susceptibility having gradually increased during the period of 10 days necessary for the two vaccines to produce their full effect.
