Therapeutics. — The oil of nutmeg is employed as a carminative. Like oil of cloves, it may be added to lax- ative pills to prevent griping. In large amounts it acts as a narcotic, producing delirium, stupor, and coma, and finally death from respiratory paralysis.

(Olive Oil, Sweet Oil.) A fixed oil expressed from the ripe fruit of Olea Europcea.

In the eruptive fevers like measles and scarlatina frequent inunctions of oil are useful in allaying irritation and in preventing the spread of the contagium.
