The governor, wishing much to get rid of such troublesome enemies, lis- tened to bis proposals, and having procured advan^ tageous terms, agreed to a peace."* The massacre of the garrison of Michiliinackinac, which occurred also in the year 1763, while it ex- hibits one of the most shocking instances of Indian barbarity, is at the same time a striking proof of the sagacity and dissimulation of the Fndian character.
