In the inscription of the reign of Buddhagupta mentioned above a Brahman Maharaja of the name of Matri-Vishnu and his brother Dhanya-Vishnu record the erection of a Dhvajastambha or flagstaff to the god Janar- dana. In another . Of the first year of a prince named Toramana, Dhanya-Vishnu speaks of his brother Matri- Vishnu as having died in the interval, and of his erecting a temple to the Boar or Varaha incarnation of Vishnu.^* There is another inscription...at Gwalior, dated in the 15th year of Mihirakula, who is represented as Toramana's son, and it records the erection of a temple of the sun by Matricheta.^^ Toramana belonged to the Hujua race, so that 'it would appear that a short time after 174, G. E. Or 492 A. D. The latest date of Buddhagupta occurring on one of his coins, /. E, about 500 A. D. , the Hunas established their power up to the Central *e Ih, No. 19. ^« Inscr. E. G. Kings, No. 36. ^^ Ih. No. 37- 51 Provinces. But since only two princes of the race are mentioned, it appears that they did not retain it for a long time.
