But befide the Neceflity of a good Intention, as the Ground or only reafonable Pretence of all cenfuring of others, we muft take Care that our Cenfures be not rafh and fevere, for fuch they are, if we either, S i (i. ) OfCenfure CHAP. XII.
(i. ) Give Credit to every Thing that (an lefaid ill of a Man, There is not that Story which can be invented to the pif- reputation of another, thp' never fo groundlefs and improbable, (nay, I may lay almoft impoffible) but' fome will greedily receive and fwallow it.
