And so it is really throughout all the points which make up the ensemble of real or fancied beauty; the want of such in the hen may be supplied in the chickens if care is taken to select a cook in which they exist, and vice versa ; but to an- ticipate any special characteristic to excel in the chickens will prove an unprofitable task, unless one or both of the parents possess it in a minor or major degree.
