). Red -eyed Vireo. A common summer resident. Its spring arrivals, as noted, are from May 3 to 15, inclusive. The latest fall date is October 3 (1891), but the species generally dis- appears in September. It affects both the uplands and the lowlands, but is for the most part confined to the woods, breeding preferably in the timbered ravines and near the borders of the forests. The Red-eyed Vireo sings steadily from the time of its arrival until about the middle of August, and thereafter more or... less intermittently usually as long as it re- mains, the latest song date being October 3 (1891). 139. Vireo gilvus (VIEILL. ). Warbling Vireo. An abundant summer resident; somewhat more numerous at the time of the spring migration. It appears ordinarily during the first week of May, and remains until late in September. Extreme dates are April 28, 1891, and October 2, 1892. In most situations excepting the woodlands, the present species, particularly dur- ing the breeding season, replaces to a great extent the Red-eyed Vireo.
