England, the greatest manufacturing and com- mercial nation of moderri times, has mado the regulation of duties on imports a pol...itical sci- ence. Her imposts are more protective, specific, and more wisely and nicely adjusted, than the duties imposed by any other nation. Her great object was to foster, and cultivate to the highest point of industrial and commercial prosperity, her leading interests of manufacture and trade.
