It is only about eight years since I heard, in the National Council of Education, the largest edu- cational body we have in this country, a very bitter discussion in the managing board as to whether col- lege presidents and professors ought to be given much, if any, place on the programme. The second thing that it seems to me is coming to be almost generally recognized is the indispensable necessity of a little research in as many places as pos- sible.
