This review was in the form of a letter to my friend, and constituted part of a correspondence that was continued until death interrupted the intercourse.
From this incident in my life, — why should I not signalize it as an event in the providence of God ? — I infer, and infer with a good deal of confi- dence, that the doctrine of the Trinity is not a doc- trine of the Scriptures, but a doctrine of education, and that it is mainly, if not entirely, dependent upon the almost irresistible power of education for the prominent place it holds in the Christian world.
