Success, in most of our endeavors, depends on this. But, while we form plans, we should not do it with confidence that we shall actually carry them into effect. We may not say, with feelings of independence, " to- day," or " to-morrow I will go into such a city and con- tinue there a year, and buy and sell and get gain." For our days are limited, numbered and determined in the 10 counsels of God. But we know not what their number is, and, therefore, cannot tell when our change will come. It may... take place when least expected ; w^hen we are in the midst of worldly cares ; when our plans are but partly executed, and we are carrying them successfully on to their accomplishment. The husbandman may be called away just as his fields are whitening for harvest ; the mechanic, when his contract is but half completed; the manufacturer, when orders are pouring in, and all his machinery is in motion ; the professional man, in the fullness of his strength, with noble objects in view, and while pressing on to secure them.
