And fuch par...ts of our excellent federal conftitution have proved to be the mod found, which have wifely regarded principles, it was obliged to admit and indulge, more from the wifdom and ex- perience of nations, than from our own immediate preference or choice.
But left we fhould diftruft the zeal of ancient times, and prefume upon modern wifdom, we have before us in our own country, the molt bold experiment, ever made in favour of perpetual peace, and it was con- dueled upon the Chriftian motives of piety and be~ nevolence.
