How often has the blooming beauty, who had attracted the ad- miring gaze of multitudes, found the roses withering upon her cheeks, disease making its rapid and fatal inroads, the symptoms of death becoming more a...wfully decisive, till she has been consigned to the darkness and corruption of the grave ! Who of us has not seen the man who glori- ed in his strength, suddenly prostrated upon a sick bed, and in a few hours, exhibiting all the weakness and helpless- ness of an infant ? And can we look on the emaciated body, the withered, fallen countenance, the faded eye, without be- ing deeply impressed with the sentiment contained in the text, that man wasteth aivay.
But this gloomy process of consumption does not ter- minate at death.
