It is impor...tant to note the attitude of the people toward the public schools as is indicated by the amount of contribution which rose from 6, 007. 30 pesos in 1912 to 799, 557, 84 pesos in 1920. This apparent increase in the ex- penditures for school purposes is well illustrated in graph VIII. In comparing, however, the expenditures of the Insular government with its total annual expenditures for the years 1915 to 1920 inclusive, I found the interesting facts as shown in table XII .
