The alloy of zinc and silver rises to the surface, and is the first portion to solidify, and can be removed. The operation is carried out in iron pots.
The argentiferous lead is melted, and a quantity of zinc is thoroughly stirred into the molten mass, the amount of zinc depending upon the richness of the lead.
