This fine story contains a large element of the super- natural, and many details of great curiosity and interest to the folk-lorist. There remain one or two other tales belonging to the cycle of such importance that they cannot be overlooked even in a brief survey. A TEXT BOOK OF IRISH LITERATURE. ?1 The Intoxication of the Ultonians (Mesca Ulad}. This is one of those wild tales of adventure such as the Irish story-teller seems to have delighted to tell. It recounts a night raid of the heroes, ...who were all in- toxicated after a feast, across the entire extent of the country from Dun-da-benn, near the present Coleraine, in Ulster, to the fort of Curoi mac Daire at Tara- Luachra in Kerry. This Curoi is represented in the Feast of Bricriu as being, like Conall the Victorious and Manannan mac Lir, constantly away in foreign lands. He is said never to have passed a night at home, and for safety during his absence he caused his fort to spin round and round at nights, so that no one could find the door by which to enter after sunset.
