In Tiinltro-cliloro-'beiizene, C8H2(N02)3C1, the chlorine atom has been rendered so easily exchangeable by the acidifying influence of the nitro-groups that the compound behaves as an acid chloride ; hence the name " picryl chloride," the chloride of picric acid (p.
