R. 305. 540 LIABILITY OF CLIENT TO ATTORNET. § 327 day on which a bill is received is not to be reckoned as one of the days of the month given to the client.-' § 327. Delivery of the bill. — As to the delivery of the bill, its sufficiency depends upon the circumstances of each particu- lar case.^ Handing the bill to a r...elation of the party is not sufficient ; ^ but delivery to the servants of the client at his dwelling-house, has been held to be so.* It is not enough to show it to the party charged and then to take it away again, unless the attorney showing it intends to leave it with the party and merely takes it back at his request.^ A delivery to an agent of the client appointed for that purpose is sufficient,^ and so is delivery of a bill unsigned, but accompanied by a letter signed by the solicitor and referring to the bill,'^ and a signed bill headed in the matter of business, but not addressed to any one, but enclosed in an envelope and sent by post to the client.* It is enough to deliver a bill to one of several joint contract- ors,' and to a solicitor of a corporation who lays it before the managing committee, the defendant being present, to charge the latter as an acting member.^'' A bill in such a case should be delivered, either at the office of the company, or at least to some person who can reasonably be considered to represent the committee.^^ An order for the delivery of an attorney's bill may be made by a judge of a different court from that in which the action is brought, although a judge of the latter court is attending in chambers at the time such order is made.^^ An at- 1 Blunt c.
