" When, at her earnest request, I concluded to pay the Mis sion Indians a second visit (I had visited a number of their villages before seeing her), she wrote Don Antonio F. Coronel, of Los Angeles, who, with his good wife, are the best friends these Indians have in California, that I was going to visit the Indians, and that no one else could do for them what I could do.
