I should act unfairly, however, by Biddeford, did I not mention one mark of the good sense and Christian philanthropy of its inhabitants, ex- emplified in an Home of Industry; an institution that confers more respectability on their town (inasmuch as it has for its ends the real good and best interests of society) than if its port were crouded with ships from every region under Heaven, and its custom-house receipts equalled the revenues of the Lydian Croesus.
