It is often foggy, frequently wet, and sometimes veiy cloudy ; in addition to which the forests are peri- odically on fire, the atmosphere becoming so smoky that every object remains obscured until the fires are quenched by rain. Next to being born blind and doomed to listen to descriptions of what is going on around you, it must be the greatest torture to know that you are in the presence of the most beautiful works of the creation, hidden from you by a fog, and that you are si)eeding past them perhaps forever, never to re- turn.
