Me it further enacted^ That in order to aid said company in the immediate construction of their line of railroad and Its tranches, there is hereby granted to said company, by and with the consent of the trustees of the Internal Improve- ment Fund, all the lands belonging to the State of Florida, and Digitized by Google LAWS OF FLORroA. 53 known as " Swamp or Overflowed lands," within six miles on each fiide of said line of railroad and its branches, and in addition to eaid lands one hundred... thousand acres of " Swamp and Over- flowed Lands," to be selected by said company from the lands adjoining or nearest to said line of railroad ; Provided^ That the said line of railroad shall be commenced within one year after the passage of this act, and completed within one year thereafter ; And provided further^ That the proceeds by sale of all the lands hereby granted to said company shall be applied ex- clusively, as far as necessary, to the purpose of reclaiming said lands by means of drainage, or like means ; And provided fur- ther^ That the titles to said lands shall vest in said company only as the construction of the railroad progresses, to wit : That on the presentation to the trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund of a certificate of the president or engineer of said com- pany that five miles of said road have been fully com- ,pleted, the said trustees shall then make a conveyance to said company of one-eighth of the total amount of all the lands granted to said company, and thereupon full and complete title to the same shall be vested in said company, and so on for every five miles as the road progresses.
