Even displeasure was be- ginning to be expressed among those whose tempers were the easiest ruffled, at being thus brought from their homes for nothing, when the door of the church burst suddenly open, and in strode the belated preacher, quite heated from hur- rying, dressed in his shooting- jacket and velveteen breeches, and carrying in his hand his game-bag and fowling-piece.
