A line attached to the shaft of the weapon secures the wounded animal from getting clear away. It may dive to CURING THE FISH-COW. 205 the bottom, or rush madly along the surface, but can only go so far as that terrible tether will allow it, to be dragged back towards the montaria, where its struggles are usually termi- nated by two or three thrusts of a spear.
