To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
In Egypt the " relative " humidity for the month of June, 1884, was 73, February 70, this has a drying power at the temperature of the body (say 98'6 Fahr.) of 160 and 156 grs. per 10 cubic feet, which is seen to be actually a less dry air when taken into the lungs than that of an Alpine height. Although I have mentioned the " relative " humidity for contrast, this observation in the comparison of cold climates with other places, requires a further calculation to afford a definite idea of the h...ygrometric state of the atmosphere, for with variation in the temperature the standard varies, and what may be a damp climate at 90 per cent, in one locality, is a dry climate in another with regard to animals, for at Cairo 90 per cent, relative humidity represents in January, 1884, 37 grains of vapour in 10 cubic feet, whereas at Maloja for the same month but 14 grains are suspended in the air at 90 per cent. Therefore, in a medical aspect there can be no hesitation in saying that the " absolute " humidity should on no account be neglected, the drying power of the air being given in grains of vapour, then some approximate estimate of evaporation from the lungs and skin might perhaps be made.
