When we come to very high frequencies, effects are greatly increased ; and by means of Mr. Campbell Swinton's a...pparatus which I have been employing I am able to get very high fre- quencies indeed. By using an oscillatory discharge (about which I shall speak more fully later on) which oscillates at very rapid frequency, and also by using high electromotive force in this F 74 ALTERNATING AND INTERRUPTED discharge, I am able to get effects which could not be got by an ordinary alternating current. At the same time, by observing the effects with these very high frequencies, we are able to grasp what is going on at the lower frequencies, though not to such a serious extent.
