Many years ago — in my " salad days, when I was green in judgment ** — I essayed to write a letter while I was up in a balloon, at an altitude of about two miles from the earth. I think that it was a love-letter which, " with the Vanity of Youth untoward, ever Spleeny, ever Froward," I tried to scribble.
