In his efforts to cut them off from food, VercingetorLx attacked them again and again, and was so successful that at times they were without bread for days together. But Csesar persisted until he had captured the city. Then, in order to make a terrible object-lesson for the rest of Gaul, he massacred all its inhabitants. A little later, when Csesar attacked Vercingetorix at Caesar the town of Gergo\da, he was repulsed with heavy loss.
