The parish of Longmeadow, and those on the west side of Connecticut river, united against the first parish. Chicopee was divided. In transacting th...e ordinary town business, parties were nearly balanced : commonly there was a small majority against the first parish. In choosing representa- tives, Wilbraham united with the first parish, and made a majority. Contention, whenever any efforts were made to transact town bu- siness, became constant and violent. For a year or two, the town meetings were holden on the west side of the river, and the town 41 records kept there. In one instance, when the choice of munici- pal officers was attempted, after spending four days, only a part of them were chosen.
