To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
It was nearly midnight, and she hadn’t heard anything from Ace yet. She knew he was busy taking care of the mess created by the surprise attack, and she was doing her best to give him his space. She told herself that if she hadn’t heard from him by midnight, she would give him a call to check in, and then go to bed if she didn’t get a hold of him. He was a big boy. He could take care of himself. Aubrey had ended up staying for about three hours, and Jade had realized by the end of that time ...that she had just made a very good friend. Aubrey had an easygoing way about her that put Jade at ease. Jade never felt pressured to talk more than she wanted to, which somehow made her more open to spilling her whole story to her new friend. Aubrey had listened with sympathy as Jade talked about losing her fiancé, and about finally opening her heart up again when Ace came along. Aubrey had told her of her own bumpy beginning to her relationship with Brett, and Jade had listened with wide-eyed fascination.
