To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
Formulas for generalizability coefficients were derived for seven universes of generalization. The first two sources of error were defined in terms of variability in the quality of the writing samples. This variability may result from changes in the subject's performance across time (occasions) and across assignment (modes). The third source of error may result from differences in the standard of judgement used by different raters when scoring the samples. Using the principles of generalizabili...ty theory, the relative contributions of these sources of error were examined via estimates of the variance components. The discussion of the results is focused on the interpretation of the variance components and the usefulness of the theory. The limitations of this and similar studies are also considered. 64 65 Interpretation of Variance Components The largest component of variance was that associated with the students, indicating that it was possible to rank order the students on the basis of their ratings.
