At Urbana in 1911, the same results were secured as at Anna. The lice became very abundant during the latter part of August, at which time some of the melons were ripening. The a...rea devoted to melons was not large enough to test adequately different strengths of the material ; so all the vines were sprayed with a solution containing 1 part of "Black Leaf 40" in 300 of water, the applications being made in the same way as at Anna. Examination two days after spray- ing showed practically all the lice to be dead, and the insects did not reappear in sufficient numbers to be of any consequence.
TESTS IN 1912 At Anna in 1912 lice appeared during early July on a number of hills scattered over the area devoted to melons, but disappeared for the time being.
