His son William died unmar- ried, and the daughter, Jane, married July 13, 1793, Marks John Biddle, a member of the well-known family of that name.

He was a grandson of Sir Tristram Bampfylde, of England, after whom he was named and was educated as a clergyman. It is not clear when he came to America, but he is recorded as a merchant in Philadelphia as early as 1798.
