The Governor was a gentleman of conciliatory tem- per, of popular manners, of liberal taste, and possessed withal of a resolute spirit of improvement. He explored the forests, built roads, paid a careful attention to agriculture, and both by precept and example did much to develope the resources of the Province. His correspondence marks him as an enlightened, courteous, and liberal ruler, ready and willing to cooperate with others so as to produce the best actual results.
