These mountains pierced only by the Hudson and its branch the Mohawk, the Delaware, the Susque- hanna, the Potomac, and the James became a natural boundary, and these rivers lines of historical development. The Pacific Slope. An elevated plateau between the Rocky and Sierra Nevada ranges, with an abrupt descent to the sea.
