It is controlled by the Collector of the Customs, and conducted by an overseer or •teward, under the direction of the surgeon, who is David Townsend, M. D.

On political occurrences I shall remark generally, that during our connexion with Great Britain, we enjoyed the customary privileges; a due proportion of the in- habitants were appointed to important offices ; there was a regular compliance with the requirements of govern- ment, and a cheerful support of the publick burthens.
